Hope S. Rugo is professor of medicine and the director of the breast oncology clinical trials program at the University of California at San Francisco, and an investigator of SPORE (Specialized Program of Research Excellence in Breast Cancer) in the Bay Area.

In 2014 Rugo chaired the advisory panel of OncLive's "Giants of Cancer Care" award program.

Rugo was lead investigator on research that investigated the hair-preserving properties of cold caps for patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Along with her studies she is also an active clinician who gives lectures internationally.

In 2025, Rugo was named division chief of breast medical oncology for City of Hope, a cancer treatment and research group.

Dr. Rugo served for the American Society of Clinical Oncology's Education Committee on the editorial board.

She also served as the co-chair of the Emerging Toxicities Study Group for MASCC (Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer).

A graduate of Yale University with a Master’s degree specializing in oncology nursing, Deborah (Debi) Boyle MSN, RN, AOCNS®-Emerita, FAAN, is a longstanding member of the Oncology Nursing Society who has honored her with multiple awards for exemplary clinical practice, publishing, contributions to enhancing patient quality of life, expertise in psychosocial oncology, and lifetime achievement.

She has practiced as an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist in Comprehensive Cancer Centers and community oncology programs. A frequent speaker nationally and internationally, Debi has been an invited participant in numerous ASCO, NCI, and NAM initiatives. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the author of nearly 500 publications.

Vincent T. Ma, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and a medical oncologist in the Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care, with a faculty affiliation in the Department of Dermatology. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium Melanoma/Cutaneous Oncology Clinical Trial Working Group, Immuno-Oncology Therapeutics Lead in the UW Carbone Cancer Center Early Phase Oncology Therapeutics Program, and Faculty Lead for Non-Melanoma Advanced Cutaneous Malignancies.

Dr. Ma received his medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Reno, Nevada. He completed his residency training at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Michigan, followed by a Hematology/Oncology fellowship at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center.


Dr. Ma’s research focuses on optimizing therapeutic strategies for melanoma and other advanced cutaneous malignancies, with an emphasis on drug development involving immunotherapies, molecularly targeted agents, and peripheral blood biomarker discovery. He also has a research interest in the recognition and management of immune-related adverse events associated with immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy and is a co-founder of the UW Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Toxicity Initiative Working Group.


Dr. Ma’s research focuses on optimizing therapeutic strategies for melanoma and other advanced skin cancers, with an emphasis on early-phase clinical trials evaluating immunotherapies and molecularly targeted agents. He has extensive clinical trial experience as a principal and sub-investigator on cooperative group and industry-sponsored studies and is an active member of the UW Carbone Cancer Center Early Phase Oncology Therapeutics Program, Phase 1 clinical trials group, and the Melanoma Disease-Oriented Team.

Dr. Roy Beveridge is a physician executive with extensive leadership experience across clinical care, health systems, and payer organizations. Stéphane Champiat, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Investigational Cancer Therapeutics at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is a medical oncologist specializing in early-phase drug development and cancer immunotherapy, with a particular focus on improving and accelerating drug development and patient access to innovative therapies.

Dr. Champiat completed his medical degree at Sorbonne University (formerly Paris VI University) and completed his residency in medical oncology at the University of Nantes, France. He subsequently obtained a PhD in Immunology from Paris-Saclay University and pursued postdoctoral research at the University of California, San Francisco.

Before joining MD Anderson in 2024, Dr. Champiat spent more than a decade at Gustave Roussy Cancer Center in France, where he led multiple Phase I immunotherapy trials and developed the iTOX program dedicated to the management of immune-related toxicities. He currently serves as principal or co-investigator on several early-phase clinical trials and is a member of the MD Anderson Immuno-Oncology Toxicity (IOTOX) Leaders’ Group.

Dr. Champiat has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications in leading oncology and immunotherapy journals.

Dr Julia Lai-Kwon is an early career Medical Oncologist and Health Services Researcher at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia. Lai-Kwon previously trained at the Royal Marsden Hospital, United Kingdom, and the Melanoma Institute Australia. Dr Lai-Kwon’s clinical interests are melanoma and other cutaneous malignancies, and she is a sub-investigator on several sponsored and investigator-led clinical trials. Through her previous roles within the Drug Development Unit at the Royal Marsden and at the Melanoma Institute Australia, Dr. Lai-Kwon is skilled in the conduct and management of Phase 1-3 clinical trials.

Dr Lai-Kwon has research expertise inquality of life research, survivorship and patient-reported outcomes (PROs).  Dr Lai-Kwon was the Principal Investigator onseveral world-first studies examining the survivorship experience of peoplewith metastatic cancer treated with immunotherapy and targeted therapy, qualityof life issues in people with melanoma, and the use of patient-reportedoutcomes in clinical trials (including early phase clinical trials) and routinecancer care.  This work has been presentednationally and internationally and published in peer-reviewed publications.

Through this work, Dr Lai-Kwon has acquired skillsin the design, conduct, oversight and reporting of studies utilising bothqualitative, quantitative and mixed-method methodologies.  She has developed a particular focus on developingsupportive care interventions for people with metastatic cancer, including thedevelopment of novel stepped care models to manage fear of cancer recurrence orprogression in people with metastatic melanoma and the adaptation of the Cancerand Living Meaningfully (CALM) intervention for people living with metastaticnon-small cell lung cancer.  Throughthese projects, Dr Lai-Kwon has developed skills in collaborating withmultidisciplinary investigator teams and engaging with consumers throughout theresearch process.  


Dr Lai-Kwon is currently undertaking a PhD fundedby an NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship under the supervision of Prof MichaelJefford, A/Prof Claudia Rutherford and A/Prof Stephanie Best on the co-designand implementation of digital symptom monitoring for people receivingimmunotherapy.  CI Lai-Kwon has evolvinginterests in the use of digital interventions to support people receivingsystemic therapies to self-monitor and manage and the use of implementationscience frameworks to guide the implementation of PROs in routine care.


Dr Lai-Kwon has >380 citations across 37 peer-reviewed publications, including first-author publications in high-impact journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, the Journal for Immunotherapy of Cancer, and the European Journal of Cancer, as well as publications in The Lancet and Nature Communications. Dr. Lai-Kwon has been awarded $231,275.47 in grant funding as a principal investigator and $154,753 as an associate investigator. In the past five years, CILai-Kwon has been an invited speaker at national and international meetings, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), International Psycho-Oncology Society World Congress ,the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia.


Within Australia, CI Lai-Kwon’s evolving profile as a health services researcher is evidenced by her role as the Supportive Care and Survivorship Chapter Lead for the Australian Melanoma Management Guidelines and her membership of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia PRO Working Group. Internationally, Dr. Lai-Kwon is an active member of the EORTC Quality of Life Group, including as a committee member of the Early Career Investigators Group, the International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL), and the Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC). Dr Lai-Kwon is currently contributing to the development of the EORTC advanced melanoma as part of an EORTC Quality of Life Group Visiting Fellowship to the Netherlands Cancer Institute and has previously contributed to the international validation of the anal cancer and survivorship modules. CI Lai-Kwon is a member of the Emerging Toxicity and Immunotherapy special interest groups within MASCC.
